Ceasefire Violations Continue: Armenian Soldier Injured

Armenia’s Ministry of Defense announced that on August 6 and 7, Azerbaijani Armed Forces continued to violate the ceasefire regime along various points on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact by firing large-caliber weapons.

According to the statement, between August 5 and 6, the ceasefire regime along the contact line was violated 56 times, during which weapons of various calibers were fired toward Armenian positions over 7,000 times. The Armenian military responded by opening fire toward Azerbaijan 28 times during which, over 5,000 rounds of ammunition were fired.

On August 6 and the early morning hours of the 7th, Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire another 39 times. The Armenian side again responded by opening fire eight different times and fired over 230 rounds of bullets.

The Defense Ministry stated that Armenian soldier Viktor Abrahamyan (b.1995) sustained injuries during the gunfire and was transported to a military hospital in serious but stable condition. The ministry is investigating the matter.

“The Armenian forces continue to confidently monitor the situation along our borders and uphold the ceasefire agreement, only responding to the adversary’s actions with adequate force,” the Ministry statement went on to say.

During the last few days tensions have arisen between Armenia and Azerbaijan along the respective line of contact between the two states.  The adversary’s attempts at diversion along various parts of the frontline have been successfully thwarted by the Armenians. Azeri fire into the bordering region of Tavush has also intensified.

The OSCE, the Russian Federation, the United States of America, Great Britain, the European Union, and the United Nations have all expressed their concerns about the rising tensions on the frontline.
