Armenia’s Defense Ministry Warns Azerbaijan

Armenia’s Defense Ministry has issued a statement regarding the increased tensions along the Line of Contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijan. Below is the full text of the statement:

“The tense situation along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact has dramatically intensified over the last several days. Azerbaijani armed forces have not desisted from attempts at infiltrating Armenian military positions and attempts at diversionary tactics.

Large caliber artillery weapons and ammunition, multiple grenade launchers, mortars, anti-aircraft guns and thermobaric shells have been used against the NKR defense army positions. The frequency of gunfire aimed at border villages has also increased. Losses on both sides are increasing daily.

The Republic of Armenia’s Defense Ministry announces that the tactics being used by Azerbaijani military forces completely contradict the spirit and logic of the negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group for the resolution of the conflict and is fraught with the real danger of an increase of large-scale military operations.

The Republic of Armenia’s Defense Ministry calls on the Azerbaijani side to refrain from steps that will lead to increasing tension and to make efforts to stabilize the situation on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact.

In the event that Azerbaijan continues operations that will further increase current tensions, Armenian defense forces will be forced to exact punishment for the senseless display of retaliation and the military actions taken by the leadership of Azerbaijan’s defense ministry, which are devoid of logic.”
