Agos journalist (and poet) Karin Karakasli visited the Vakifli Armenian village in Turkey, where displaced Armenians from Kesab have been given refuge. Photographer Berge Arabian captured images of the daily life of these 21 seniors -- ages 65 to 92 -- who had stayed behind in Kesab, after the Syrian rebels had attacked the northern Syrian Armenian town. The residents of Vakif, a village of the historic Musaler (Musa Dagh), speak a dialect similar to the Kesab Armenian dialect. The residents of the last two Armenian towns of the Ottoman Empire, one within Turkish borders, the other within Syrian borders, are living together, unsure for how long. Ten others -- young and old -- did not accompany the population to either Latakia or Vakifli. They remain missing.
