Armenia’s MFA Welcomes California State Senate Resolution

Edward Nalbandyan, Armenia’s Foreign Minister made a statement on August 28 welcoming the California State Senate’s resolution recognizing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh as a sovereign state, which will be celebrating its 23rd year of independence on September 2.

The statement reads:

“We welcome the resolution of California Senate on recognition of Independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

The more Azerbaijan continues to undermine the efforts of Armenia and the international community aimed at the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the more new decisions and resolutions can be expected paving way towards the international recognition of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

On August 27, the California State Senate voted unanimously (23-0) to pass Assembly Joint Resolution 32, recognizing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh as a sovereign state. AJR 32 calls on the President and Congress of the US to support the self-determination and independence of Karabakh.
