On September 7, the ancient Church of the Holy Cross on the island of Akhtamar, in the center of Lake Van, celebrated divine liturgy for the fifth time and only with the consent of Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Armenian Patriarchal Vicar for Constantinople, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan led the service in the presence of Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople, Bishop Yusuf Çetin, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, and U.S Consul John Espinoza.
