Senior Azerbaijani official arrives in Yerevan on unannounced visit

An Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev arrived in Yerevan on an unannounced visit on Wednesday, according to Armenian state news agency Armenpress. No immediate details are available at the time of the publication.

Armenia’s foreign ministry told Armenpress it would release a press statement later in the day.

This marks the highest-level visit by an Azerbaijani official to Armenia to date. Baku’s choice of Mustafayev as its representative is likely not random. He was born in Soviet Armenia and attended school in the northeastern town of Noyemberyan, and is known to speak fluent Armenian.
