Turnout verges on 2021 levels with three hours left in Armenia’s election

Voter turnout in Armenia’s parliamentary elections reached 48.92% as of 5:00 p.m. local time, bringing participation close to the final figures recorded in the 2021 vote, with three hours remaining until polling stations close.

A total of 1,224,957 out of 2,503,976 registered voters had cast their ballots by that point.

Syunik province has consistently recorded the highest turnout throughout the day, reaching 55.36% in the latest update. The lowest participation was observed in Armavir province, where turnout stood at 44.8%. In Yerevan, 48.52% of eligible voters had taken part in the vote.

In the 2021 parliamentary elections, final turnout stood at 49.37%. The highest turnout on record remains the 2017 parliamentary election, when 60.86% of voters cast their ballots — a figure that could still be surpassed.

Polling stations are set to close at 8:00 p.m., after which vote counting will begin immediately. The Central Electoral Commission is expected to publish its final turnout update at 9:00 p.m. A total of 2,005 polling stations were set up across the country.

Earlier in the day, the leaders of all major contending parties cast their votes.

As of 5:00 p.m., law enforcement authorities reported that 14 individuals had been arrested across the country on suspicion of violations at polling stations, including double voting, breaches of voting secrecy, and obstruction of the voting process. Nearly 200 other incidents are currently being verified by the police.
