The Diasporan Perspectives think tank has opened a call for research proposals on the contemporary Armenian diaspora, with abstracts due by September 1.
The initiative, announced July 7, aims to produce an original anthology examining where the Armenian diaspora is heading in the twenty-first century. Diasporan Perspectives was founded in 2025 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and serves as a research and convening body on issues relating to Armenia and its diaspora.
The call seeks abstracts of up to four hundred words addressing diaspora communities, institutions and individuals, as well as the diaspora's relationship with the Armenian state. Topics of interest include philanthropy, digital mobilization, gender and power relations, language preservation, and the effects of recent out-migration from the Middle East, Armenia, and other former Soviet states on community formation elsewhere.
Submissions may focus on specific regions, from Lebanon and Syria to newer communities in Russia, Germany, and Scandinavia, or on individual institutions such as churches, political parties, and major foundations. Policy papers are also welcome if they address concrete problems facing diaspora communities.
