Saffron, the red gold sprouting in Armenia’s Tavush region

Sarigyugh in Armenia’s Tavush region has been exporting ‘red gold,’ also known as saffron, to Switzerland for the last few years. This spice, with its dark red strings, has for centuries been one of the most prized in the world. Its export from Sari village to Switzerland is being secured by the work of 20 women.
