Daily Armenia: State of Emergency and Travel Restrictions Introduced

The number of cases with COVID-19 has risen to 30 in Armenia. The Government convened an extraordinary session to introduce a state of emergency, effective from March 16 to April 14. This implies, inter alia, that the April 5 constitutional referendum will be postponed. CivilNet’s team visited Echmiadzin, the center of epidemic and Armenia’s 4th largest city, which has been put on lockdown. UPDATE: Catholicos Karekin II is back in Armenia and only left Armenia for a single day. He also issued a call stating that all celebrations of the Divine Liturgy will be conducted behind closed doors, without the participation of faithful people, and will be broadcast online as possible.
