On August 25, Turkish police violently interrupted the “Saturday Mothers” group’s peaceful protest in Istanbul using water cannons and tear gas on dozens of citizens. A number of well-known Istanbul-Armenians took part in the protest, including Member of Parliament Garo Paylan, Hrant Dink’s son, Ara Dink, and editor-in-chief of "Aras" Publishing House and former editor-in-chief of Agos, Rober Koptas. Koptas was arrested along with other demonstrators by police. How did a peaceful protest turn violence and what is the atmosphere in Turkey today? Stella Mehrabekyan speaks with Mr. Koptas.
