Parliament passes bill to nationalize Armenia’s power grid: THIS WEEK IN BUSINESS

  • Armenia’s parliament passed a bill allowing the government to seize control of ENA, the country’s main power distributor. The family of Samvel Karapetyan, the utility’s jailed billionaire owner, said they were ready to file a lawsuit disputing any potential seizure.
  • The Zangezur Combine, Armenia’s largest mine, paid the government more than $29 million in dividends on last year’s earnings. That takes the government’s total earnings since it took a minority stake in the enterprise several years ago to nearly $116 million.
