Armenian Zorah Karasi wine featured by The Irish Times

Armenian wine Zorah Karasi Areni Noir 2022 has been featured by The Irish Times, one of Ireland’s most respected newspapers, in a selection of four wines from Armenia and Georgia.

Wine writer John Wilson described the Armenian red as “very different and very delicious,” highlighting its lightly spicy aromas, red cherry and redcurrant flavors and fresh acidity. The wine, made from Armenia’s indigenous Areni Noir grape, was priced at €45.99 in Ireland.

Wilson said a recent visit to Armenia had drawn his attention to the country’s wine tradition and its hundreds of indigenous grape varieties. He noted that while Armenia was largely designated for brandy production during the Soviet period, it is now producing noteworthy wines from local varieties, including Areni Noir.

The article, titled “Wines from Georgia and Armenia: four great bottles to try,” also recommended three Georgian wines: Qvevris Kisi 2022, Mtsvane 2024 by Pheasant’s Tears, and Rkatsiteli 2024 by Marani Urjukas, all from Kakheti. Wilson also highlighted Georgia’s ancient qvevri winemaking tradition.
