A Candlelight Vigil will take place in support of Iraq’s Yazidi population in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh on September 11. Artak Beglaryan, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, made the announcement on his Facebook page.
Beglaryan wrote, “ With this march, we are demonstrating our support to the Yazidi people in Iraq who being subjected to genocide. It is not only our duty to prevent new genocides, but also to support our brethren. No to genocides!”
The terrorist group known as “Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” (ISIS) has seized a number of major towns and villages in Iraq and Syria over the last few months, among them Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul, where a large number of Yazidis call home. ISIS has pushed out the Yazidis from their homes and has subjected them to mass killings on religious grounds.
Just this week, Kurdistan Democratic Party officials reported that a mass grave containing the remains of 35 Yazidis were found in Masul, while The Telegraph reported that over 40 women are being held captive and sexual abused by Isil fighters.
