PicsArt has landed the #5 spot on Forbes magazine’s list of the Top 10 Hottest Startups of 2015. Earlier this month, Google Play named it one of the Best Apps of the year.
PicsArt is an app that combines elements of Instagram and Photoshop. Originally designed by US-based Open Soft Consult, its software program development and marketing is completely carried out by Armenians in Yerevan.
In an interview with CivilNet in February 2015, co-founder Artavazd Mehrabyan described how PicsArt “is not only a photo editing tool. It has a spirit and soul which allows you to constantly be engaged. It has no point of exit.” The options are endless, ranging from photo editing to collaging, drawing, and text.
The app also includes its own social network that allows users to connect with each other. There are 65 million monthly users worldwide, with over 250 million installs -- and these numbers continue to grow rapidly.
Mehrabyan described the young staff as one of their strengths, because “young people have no boundaries” and can think more creatively, free of limitations. He seems to be right, as PicsArt is already a standout leader in the creative app scene.
In February 2015, they received a $10 million investment from Sequoia Capital venture fund, which has allowed the company to focus on growth and long-term strategic plans.
PicsArt is free and compatible with Android, Windows, and Mac.
