The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published a report on global education on Tuesday, with Armenia in the 50th place.
The report assesses the education systems in 76 countries and highlights a relationship between economic growth and education.
Armenia ranks second in the region after Turkey, which is in 41st place. Iran and Georgia took 51st and 59th place respectively.
Asia tops the list with Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan at the top 5. The UK is in the 20th place, United States is in the 28th, and Russia is in 34th place. South Africa and Ghana ranked the lowest.
According to the report, the standard of education is a powerful predictor of the wealth that countries will produce in the long run.
The rankings are based on a combination of international assessments, putting all countries, developed and developing, on a single scale.
“This is the first time we have a truly global scale of the quality of education,” said Andreas Schleicher, the OECD’s education director.
The findings of the report will be presented at the UN World Education Forum (WEF) in South Africa next week, where targets for raising global education will be set for 2030.
