Pashinyan accepts Trump’s invitation to join Board of Peace

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has accepted an invitation to join the Board of Peace, a U.S.-led intergovernmental organization proposed by President Donald Trump to "promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict."

Trump extended the invitation in his capacity as Chairman of the Board, inviting Pashinyan to represent Armenia as a Founding Member State. Armenia joins a handful of countries that have so far confirmed their membership, including Albania, Hungary, Canada, and Kazakhstan. 

Per the board’s charter, member states will support the Board’s operations, though they are not required to participate in any specific peace-building mission it might undertake. Member states will serve a maximum term of three years, subject to renewal by the Chairman. States can receive permanent membership through a cash donation of more than $1 billion to the Board within its first year. 

An invitation letter from Trump, dated last Friday, was posted to Facebook on Tuesday by the prime minister’s press secretary Nazeli Baghdasaryan, who noted that Pashinyan “accepted the proposal with love and responsibility, reaffirming Armenia's commitment to promoting peace.” 

She did not specify whether Armenia would be paying the $1 billion fee to become a permanent member. 

The Board of Peace was proposed by Trump in September 2025 and, per a United Nations Security Council resolution adopted in November, is mandated to support the administration, reconstruction, and economic recovery of the Gaza Strip following a two-year war with Israel. 

Among the executive board members already announced are Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British prime minister Tony Blair, and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff. 

Media reports state that more than 60 countries are believed to have been invited to join the board so far, including, most controversially, President Vladimir Putin on behalf of Russia. The Kremlin confirmed receipt of the invitation on Monday but so far has not stated whether it will join.
