The 10th Congress of the Youth of the European People’s Party (YEPP) unanimously passed a resolution on May 18 recognizing and condemning the genocides of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians.
The resolution, which was initially submitted by the Greek delegation, urges EU members states and the European Council to “recognize and restore the historical reality in memory of the victims of the genocides of the Armenians, Pontic Greeks and Assyrians.”
“All the interested sides recognize the genocides of the Armenians, Pontic Greeks and Assyrians and adopt April 24 and May 19 as the remembrance days of the Armenian Genocide and the Genocide of Pontic Greeks respectively,” the document reads.
The resolution was even backed by representatives of countries that have not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
More than 250 young leaders from more than 40 European countries participated in the 10th Congress of the YEPP, including the Youth Organization of the Republican Party of Armenia headed by its president Karen Avagyan.
The YEPP was officially founded in 1997, and it has developed into the biggest political youth organization in Europe.
