An Institute of Ancient Manuscripts to be Established in Artsakh

On March 17, the President Bako Sahakyan of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh met architect Arthur Meschian and Hrachya Tamrazyan, the director of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, commonly known as the Matenadaran. During the meeting they discussed establishing a Matenadaran in Artsakh and renovating the Vahram Papazyan Drama Theater in the capital city Stepanakert.

President Sahakyan stressed the importance of ensuring the establishment of an Ancient Manuscript Institute-Museum in Artsakh, noting that it will help preserve historical values and promote professional research on the history of the native people of Artsakh.

Arthur Meschyan presented the blueprint for the renovation project of the Drama Theater of Stepanakert. President Sahakyan said that the main theater of Artsakh is one of the most important cultural structures in Artsakh and should be working within modern building standards. Hence collaborating with Armenia’s leading architects will ensure the successful implementation of the proposed renovation project.

Narine Aghabalyan, Minister of Culture and Youth of Nagorno-Karabakh, and other officials were also present at the meeting.
