On the frontlines, volunteers in Syunik share stories of hope and heartbreak

On September 24, tens of thousands of Armenians began to flee their homes in Nagorno-Karabakh and make the arduous journey to Armenia’s bordering region of Syunik. After nearly a year of blockade and violence, many arrived hungry, ill, and with only the most minimal of belongings. In the midst of this ethnic cleansing, both local and international organizations, along with over 1,000 volunteers from the Syunik region, worked diligently to register, distribute food and clothing, and offer crucial psychological support. The student teams from Goris State University in Syunik were among the earliest to undertake these challenging and vital responsibilities. CivilNet interviewed some of these dedicated volunteers, who shared compelling stories from the people of Artsakh.
