Mustafa Kemal Ataturk gave Hagop Martayan the nickname "Dilacar" which literally translated means tongue or language opener. Martayan was of Armenian descent and is considered one of the founders of the modern Turkish language. He was proficient in 24 languages. "Dilacar" was also the first Secretary General and head specialist of the Turkish Language Association.
